A few Sudanies Dive Sites
Shaab Rumi
This is one of the most exciting and most beautiful dive sites in the Red Sea. Cousteau built his underwater observatory here, the Precontinental II, already in the 60s and its remains and the shark cages can still be found here. This place is famous for the continuous circular dance of cardinal fish, barracudas, tuna, batfish and the locally settled reef, grey and hammerhead sharks.
Umbria wreck
It is called the Thistlegorm of Sudan. It captures even divers who are not that interested in wrecks. The wreck lies at 35m with trucks, cars, bombs and wine bottles in its cargo hull. After seeing the coral-covered boat, the circling spiney fish, butterfly fish and barracudas, it is obvious why Hans Haas has called this the most unique wreck in the world.
Angarosh
It is one of the best shark dive sites in the world. Hammerhead and reef sharks are constant diving companions. Schools of barracuda and the sight of brilliantly coloured whip, star and spiney corals are also amazing.
Sanganeb
Looking down from the Sanganeb lighthouse, we cannot imagine the wonders the sea hides below. Diving in the cracks and ducts of the reef with the hundred faces we meet up with sharks and schools of fish. We can only hold our breath in the garden of wonderful soft and hard corals while marvelling in the beauty of the underwater world.
Shaab Suadi
Blue Bell, the freighter sunken in the 70s, lies on the side of the reef named Shaab Su’adi. We can discover Toyota pick-ups, tires and spare parts in the light streaming through the underwater “wreck shop” along with schools of fish and soft corals.
