Angarosh Reef

Location: Red Sea / Sudan / North
Description: Reef / Outside walls
Depth: 10 – 55 m

In the local language, “Angarosh” means “Mother of Sharks”. An appropriate name for this reef where grey sharks are regularly observed on the drift dives along the outside walls. The top of the reef is at 10 meters deep and the deeper flat area is at 40 – 50 meters. The site consists of two plateaus located respectively at 25 and 45 meters in depth that manta rays particularly appreciate. Rings formed by schools of barracuda are also visible from the blue. Angarosh reef suitable for intermediate divers. Start the dive away from the reef towards the blue and look for sharks. Return and swim along the reef, where you can find lots of reef fish and fantastic corals. The average visibility is 10-20 metres and access to the dive site is by boat.

Fresh from Sudan

Breaking News: Good Morning to all! Andromeda got to the main sea port in Port Sudan today and she is waiting for the costumers in gloriously flat calm waters. The sun is shining – currently it is a lovely 28 degrees Celsius and diving visibility is excellent.

Andromeda will be operating from Port Sudan for the next 15 weeks in the Sudanese Red Sea. She is one of a very few boats to operate in this area where diving is incredible and reefs are pristine. She has been working in Sudan in the past 2 spring seasons.

Andromeda, built in 2009, is the first, high-specification, steel boat to operate in Sudan. Her range and speed allow her to open up new dive sites in the area.

Our strengths in Sudan:

  • Our regular North itinerary includes dive sites all the way North to Angarosh and Abington, visiting the sites of Umbria Wreck, Sanganeb, Shaab Rumi, Shaab Suedi – Blue Bell Wreck, Merlo Reef, Abington, Mesharifa, Quita el Bana, Angarosh.
  • There are no extra charges for dive sites.
  • There are at least 4 dives on every tour.
  • We offer at least 4 dives every day (except for the first and the last days).
  • Our new itinerary, Ultimate Sudan tour, includes the best dive sites from the North and South Sudan dive sites.
  • Our diver’s safety is further enhanced by our SEA MARSHALL lost diver locate system.

Red Sea and Safety

Flights to the popular Red Sea resort towns will resume in 1-2 weeks

Since Sunday, the economic life in Egypt has been returning back to normal. The banks have opened, people have returned to work and usual traffic has started again throughout Egypt.

In Hurghada there has never been danger to the tourists or the locals.

Thanks to the return of the Internet, Facebook and mobile services, our office is operating again smoothly and communicating with our representatives in Egypt.

Andromeda is soon departing for Sudan, laden with 70 tons of diesel, 5 tons of food and thousands of bottles of soft drinks, which is not a small feat, though filling up the boat with supplies did not cause any problems. This also goes to show that there is no food supply problem in Hurghada.

The still ongoing demonstrations in the larger towns of Upper Egypt are far from the Red Sea resort towns, about 600km from Hurghada and about 900km from Marsa Alam.

The Red Sea is not only far from the demonstrations but there are also strict safety regulations in place there. There is high employment rate and very low crime rate in these areas. Holidays planned along the Red Sea in the resort towns are not subject to any danger, they are safe and they are far from the unrest.

As it is well known now, in the last week of January demonstrations were planned throughout Egypt with the help of online community pages such as Facebook and Twitter. After this quick “social network” revolution, the organisers lost control of the events and as it usually happens, it all ended up in looting, fighting and settings things on fire.

Most airlines suspended flights to Egypt and asked their citizens to leave Cairo, Suez, Alexandria and Luxor. Although these restrictions did not affect the Red Sea resort towns (Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Sharm el Sheikh), it did influence the way tourists and people think. We cannot tell exactly how much longer before the restrictions will be lifted but we can confirm that the Budapest-Cairo Egypt Air flight will resume on 11.02.2011 and the charter flights on 19.02.2011.

As far as we know, the British and Russian charters are still flying to the resort towns and the French charters will start again within the next 10 days.

Egypt Travel Updates

We are closely monitoring the situation in Egypt and we are being constantly updated by our local representatives about any new developments. We were told that the Port Sudan flight from Cairo left without any problems last Saturday.

We all trust the situation will ease soon in Egypt, especially in Cairo, and all flights and schedules will resume to normal. So, as long as the flights are not restricted, our tours are confirmed and will take place. We will do our best to keep everything as planned.

The Egyptair Sales Offices are reopened

After activating the internet service in Egypt, EGYPTAIR announces that starting on the 3rd of February 2011, all EGYPTAIR local offices will be opened from 09:00 till 15:00.
All EGYPTAIR customers are now able to book online and use all the facilities provided on www.egyptair.com.
